Shortt’s Motorsports Support Continues to Support OFFC in 2008

Shortt’s Motorsports Support, owned and operated by Garry and Sherry Shortt of Orangeville, Ontario, has been an official supplier of Leaf Racewear for the past 6 years.  Last season they struck a partnership with President François Thèriault who heads up Racing Radios International based in Montreal, Quebec.   SMS continues this relationship with Racing Radios and is still the Official Ontario Sales Representative for Racing Radios and Leaf in Ontario.

Through SMS, Ontario Formula Ford Challenge drivers will receive a discount of 10 percent on Leaf Racing Supplies.  New this year the Shortt’s will also not charge any GST on purchases.  They can also bring any supplies to the racetrack or ship to your home the choice is yours.    Through SMS, Racing Radios has also donated the use of Radios for the Series Officials to use on Race weekends.

“SMS looks forward to the 2008 season.  We are also a proud sponsor of the Ontario Formula Ford Challenge Series, Ontario Pro Challenge Racing Series and British Automobile Racing Club.  Watch for our truck to be at all the tracks this year and let us help in servicing your racing needs. ”  Garry Shortt

SMS is still your one-stop-shop for Leaf Racewear and Racing Radios in Ontario.  The OFFC would like to thank SMS for its continued support.  Contact Garry & Sherry Shortt, Shortt’s Motorsports Support, teamshortt@rogers.com, 519-940-9960

The Ontario Formula Ford Challenge Reaffirms Its Commitment to Great Racing

The OFFC has been busy in the off-season, restructuring and building a talented series, to move forward in 2008 with a fresh new outlook.  Like all series there is always a time for rejuvenation to build on what already is a great series.  In the 2007 season, the increase in registered drivers and the diversity of 1600 vehicles left the series with a need to restructure its classifications.  The series now has three class championships.  They are Class A, Class B and Class C, a full explanation to the classes can now be found on our new website www.offcseries.com.

Some of our changes have to do with our new website.  Webguy Jean-Guy Fournier has been a long-time member of the Ontario Formula Ford Series and has the skills and knowledge to keep our new site up-to-date.  We would like to thank the sponsorship received from Snuffbox for the initial set-up and maintenance of our offc.ca site, however we are at a crossroads and welcome Jean-Guy Fournier, at the helm.

The series also has changes in its management.  While most of the original management team are still in place, we have changes in our Steering Committee.  Servicing the committee are:  Brian Graham, from Brian Graham Racing, who is knowledgeable and a long-time standing member in Formula Ford Racing and is also a sitting member of the CASC; David Clubine of Britain West Motorsport/Vintage Tyres Limited, also knowledgeable in Formula Ford Racing and is the series Dunlop Representative; Nigel Mortimer of Mortimer Racing, has also been with the series bringing a wealth of knowledge from long-time Formula Ford Racing and Andrew Mason, who comes from a racing family and background also in Formula Ford Racing.

While some of the Management team are BARC members, the team is not wholly made up from BARC members.  Also the OFFC will retain its banking functions and privileges with BARC.  This is a series run by its membership drivers.  All major changes for the OFFC are voted upon, by the registered driver collective in good standing under the guidance of the CASC-OR (www.casc.on.ca).

The OFFC will race the following schedule:

Date  Host Event Track
May 10 – 11 BEMC Spring Trophy Mosport
May 31 – June 1 CRDA Shannonville Shootout Shannonville
June 14 – 15 NASCAR Mosport’s Father’s Day Doubleheader Mosport
July 26 – July 27 MCO Ted Powell Memorial Calabogie
August 9 - 10 BARC Canadian Touring Trophy Races Mosport
September 13 - 14 BEMC Indian Summer Races Mosport
September 27 - 28 PRO/Mosport Formula Car CANNAM Cup* Mosport
* non-championship

These changes allow an already brilliant series to move forward retaining its competitiveness and acknowledging the diversity of it membership.  We continue to run the series on Dunlop Tyres, a tire that has proven to be an excellent race tire for the Ford Cortina GT 1600 engine.  Our Class A champion will receive an IPS test drive with Brian Stewart Racing.  Brian Stewart has always been a strong supporter for Formula Ford 1600 Racing.  Toronto Tirecraft – Concord continues to support our series with set-up for Dunlop Tyres.  Shortt’s Motorsport Support will continue to support the series with Leaf Racewear and Racing Radios.

The OFFC would like to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable 2008-racing season.
